206 3d. A. Did not vote—would have voted for Franklin. 4th and 5th. Waived. Cross-Examination: Have you or not been opposed to the war policy of the Government for the restoration of the Union? A. 1 was opposed 10 the war because I did not believe it was for the restoration of the Union. Have you or not felt or expressed your sympathies with the South? A. My sympathies were both North and South—it was as much of a mingled feeling as any man ever had. Were you or not in favor of peace, even if it cost the re- cognition of the Southern Confederacy? A. I wanted peace—I wanted the shedding of blood to stop. The above has been read to me and is correct. JOHN CULLEN. Written and attested to by Henry Page, Clerk. George T.
