189 WILLIAM S. MOORE. Attested to and written by Henry Page, Clerk. James N. Hughes, a witness produced on behalf of claim- ant, being duly sworn, answers and says: To the first interrogatory: A. Forty-eight years; been a voter 27 years; resided in 1856 in District No. 6. 2nd. . i A. Did apply; took the oath; answered all their ques- tions; no charge, no witness; among other questions they asked me if I had voted for Daniel M. Henry. I answered yes. » 3d. A. Did not vote because I was not registered; would have voted for Franklin. 4th. Waived. Cross-Examination: To the first interrogatory: A. I was a Union man and did not. I was a Union man until the Crittenden Compromise was rejected. 2d. A. Waived. 3d: Waived 4th; A. I decline to answer; touching my acts I will answer questions, but touching my feelings I will not. 5th and 6th waived. Re-direct: 1st. When you say you were a Union man until after the defeat of the Crittenden Compromise, do you mean that you after that were in favor of the dissolution of the Union? Ex- plain yourself, |
