177 Cross-Examination: To the first interrogatory: A. No, sir; I had very little to say over it. I was selling goods under the Government and was afraid to express my- self. 2d. A. I was very sorry for it, because I thought it would make a bad country for us. 3d. A. Not at all, except that I was sorry for the men t'aat were killed on both sides. 4th. A. If I had a choice I should say I was for the South, out I didn't aid or assist them any. 5th and 6th. Waived. Re-direct Examination. To the filed re-direct interrogatory: A. No, sir; never did. The above has been read to me and is correct. WILLIAM H. WATERS. Attested to and written by Henry Page, Cleric. Henry W. Matthews, a witness produced on behalf of claimant, being duly sworn, answers and says: To the first interrogatory: A. Five years; been a voter two years; resided in Dis- trict No. 6 in 1865. 2d. A. I did apply the second day of their sitting, took the oath, answered all their questions, no charge, no witnesses. 3d. A. Did not vote because I was not registered; would have voted the Democratic ticket, for Franklin. 18 |
