85 2nd. Where you not a merchant, engaged in selling goods in the town of Princess Anne, from the year 1861, continu- ously down to the present time? And did you or not take the oath prescribed by the Treasury Department to be adminis- tered by the boards of Trade in the several counties to mer- chants and others obtaining goods from the city of Baiti- more ? A. I was in the business from 7th April, 1860, to the pres- ent time; I took the oath as long as the Boards of Trade were in existence, as far as I know, and for every hit of goods 1 got. To the first cross interrogatory filed by the contestant? A. I was very sad on the evening I heard of it, don't recol- lect of saying a word to any human being on the subject. 2nd. A. I felt great regret at that time, as the beginning of the war; don't recollect any conversation. 3rd. A.
