I shall, how- ever, carry with me through life the gratifying reflection that the promise I made when you first elevated me to this posi- tion have been performed; for I can say with truth that no personal or political consideration has ever influenced a single one of, my official acts as presiding officer of this body. I shall part with you, gentlemen, in the same spirit that I first met you— by earenstly and sincerely asking that the b:essings of Heaven may ever be yours, and by expressing the hope that it some day we may all meet in a fairer and better world than this.
