The honourable Charles Ridgley, of Hampton,
THE senate having a sufficient number of members to form a house, are ready to proceed on the business of the session, and to elect the governor at one o'clock this day, if agreeable to your house. We have appointed Charles Ridgely, of Hampton, and William H. Dorsey, Esquires, to join any gentlemen that may be chosen by your house to examine the ballots. John Hoskins Stone is nominated for governor by this house. By order, A. VAN-HORN, clk. On motion, ORDERED, That the honourable William H. Dorsey, John Eager Howard and James Hollyday, Esquires, be appointed a committee to examine and report on the proceedings of the electors of the senate. On motion, ORDERED, That the honourable Charles Carroll, of Carrollton, Charles Ridgely, of Hampton, and John Thomas, Esquires, be appointed a committee to report rules and regulations to be observed in the senate. The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following message: WE have received your message of this morning, and are ready to proceed with the business of the session; we have appointed from nine o'clock in the morning till three o'clock in the afternoon for our hours of sitting. We shall be ready to proceed to the election of a governor at the hour mentioned in your message, and have appointed Mr. McMechen and Mr. Digges to join the gentlemen named by you to examine the ballots. No gentleman is nominated by this house, as governor, in addition to the nomination made by you. By order, W. HARWOOD, clk. Which was read. The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following message: WE have appointed Mr. Ridout, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Robins, Mr. Wm. Thomas and Mr. Duckett, a committee on the part of this house to join such gentlemen as you may please to nominate on your part, to form a joint committee of both houses, to compare and examine all bills, from time to time during the session, as soon as they shall be severally engrossed. By order, W. HARWOOD, clk. Which was read. The honourable James Hollyday, Esquire, from the committee appointed to examine and report on the returns of the electors of the senate, brings in and delivers to the president the following report: THE committee appointed to examine the returns of the electors of the senate beg leave to report, that they have examined the return of the electors of the senate, met at the city of Annapolis, on Monday the 19th day of September, 1796, and find, that the following gentlemen are duly elected senators, viz. Charles Carroll, of Carrollton, John Eager Howard, Nicholas Hammond, Littleton Dennis, John Campbell, John S. Purnell, William Perry, John Graham, Charles Ridgely, of Hampton, Uriah Forrest, William Hammond Dorsey, John Thomas, James Hollyday, John Chesley and James Lloyd, Esquires. Which is submitted to the honourable senate. By order, A. VAN-HORN, clk. Which was read the first and second time and concurred with. The senate having previously qualified agreeably to the constitution and form of government, and laws of this state, proceeded to the election of a governor. The ballot box being prepared, the ballots deposited therein, sealed up, and delivered to the committee of the senate appointed to meet |
