that the last three reporters coming in are
on supplemental roll call.
(Applause.)
THE PRESIDENT: Resolution No. 52,
the Clerk will read the entire resolution.
READING CLERK: Resolution No. 52,
by Delegate Penniman, Chairman of the
Committee on Style, Drafting and Ar-
rangement.
THE PRESIDENT: If you have copies,
the Clerk will read the title only.
READING CLERK: A RESOLUTION
authorizing the Committee on Style, Draft-
ing and Arrangement to make certain cleri-
cal changes to achieve uniformity in the
style of the proposed constitution.
THE PRESIDENT: The Chair recog-
nizes Delegate Penniman.
DELEGATE PENNIMAN: I move that
all interfering rules be suspended in order
to consider this resolution.
(Whereupon, the motion was duly sec-
onded.)
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Penniman,
will you please move to suspend all inter-
fering rules to permit consideration of
Resolution No. 52?
DELEGATE PENNIMAN: I think I
just did, Mr. President.
THE PRESIDENT: I am sorry.
The State police have apparently acted
under somebody's orders — not my own —
and have escorted to the well of the
chamber my secretary, Mrs. Nancy Looker.
(The delegates rose and applauded.)
THE PRESIDENT: Is there any dis-
cussion?
Delegate White.
DELEGATE WHITE: Mr. President, I
have just received another note. It said:
"Dear John, we are finally on target with
recognition of Vera Brown."
Signed, "Marvin Singer."
Mr. President, I wonder whether the
Afro-American was notified.
(Laughter.)
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Boileau.
DELEGATE BOILEAU: I was informed
through an oversight one attractive young
lady had been missed who was with us
|
consistently since the Convention began.
While not being a member of the Conven-
tion, she will be recording this Convention
for posterity: Miss Melissa Kinsey from
the National Municipal League.
(Applause.)
THE PRESIDENT: I was not going to
introduce her as part of the Press corps.
She is not part of the Press corps, but as
Delegate Boileau indicated, she is doing
quite a bit of reporting — I dare say she
has already.
Delegate Grant.
DELEGATE GRANT: Mr. President, I
notice that there is no organization in here
to correct spelling errors. Is that intended
to be in here also?
THE PRESIDENT: I would not think
it would be necessary, but maybe it should.
(Applause.)
May we consider the resolution amended
so as to add a paragraph 5 on line 9 of
page 10 to read, "to correct errors of
spelling"?
If there is no objection — and there is
none — the modification will be made.
Thank you, Delegate Grant.
The question arises on the motion to sus-
pend interfering rules to permit immediate
consideration of Resolution No. 52. A vote
Aye is a vote in favor of suspension of
rules. A vote Nay is a vote against.
Cast your vote.
Has every delegate voted? Does any dele-
gate desire to change his vote?
(There was no response.)
The Clerk will record the vote.
There being 124 votes in the affirmative
and none in the negative, the motion car-
ries. The rules are suspended.
The question now arises on the adoption
of the resolution.
All those in favor, signify by saying
Aye; contrary, No. The Ayes have it. It is
so ordered.
I would also like you to recognize by
your applause, although they are not here,
the additional secretary who was in the
President's office until a week ago. She left.
She was expecting a baby in about a month.
This is Susan McCahan.
(Applause.)
