memorable day of my life, I would like to recognize in

the balcony my family: my wife, Sue, who has been here

3

on a number of occasions and who has come to know and

4

grow fond of so many of the delegates, and my parents who

5

have not been here before, who I am so proud of, who

6

happen to be celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary.

I hope you will give them a very warm welcome. (Applause)

When Delegate Tawes was making the introductory

remarks preliminary to the presentation of the gavels,

he said that he would not make a speech, but the recipients

might.

I think it is only fitting as a woman that I

take that option: first, to thank very much Delegate

17

Finch and the others who were responsible for giving to

18

me and the other committee chairmen the momento we will

19

all hold very dearly. I could not let this day go by

20

without saying that I was not unmindful of the honor that

21

was granted me as a woman and as a non- lawyer to be
