One other thing I want to mention because it

illustrates the great extent to which all of you have

gone to make this truly magnificent gift of a mace to

4

me mean so very, very much.

I heard the resolution read adopting the mace

6

as the duplicate original mace of this Convention. I

7

did not know at that time, and I did not know until while

8

the signing was going on that all of you, but not me,

9

were in on the secret that this mace was actually brought

10

into the chamber and used as the official mace of this

11

proceeding.

I can't imagine any attention to detail that

13

would surpass that, and I cannot tell you how very much

14

it adds, it immeasurably adds, to that mace. It truly

15

is the duplicate original mace, and I shall always

16

cherish it as such.

It also proves very conclusively something else

18

that I had long suspected, but I now have absolute

19

proof, beyond the slightest doubt.

The President of this Convention indeed did

not know everything that was going on. (Applause)
