One other announcement of interest to the
Convention, I think, is that I have granted a brief
leave of absence to the Sergeant at Arms, Richard Rothenberg,
and in his absence have designated Edward Smith, a member
of the staff, professional staff of the Convention, as
Assistant Sergeant at Arms. The leave of absence is
granted at the request of Sergeant at Arms Rothenberg to
enable him to be married tomorrow. (Applause.) He will
return to his usual occupation Tuesday. He said a
long weekend would suffice for the moment. (Laughter.)
