I feel that this is a good amendment. I want
2
to thank the Minority for the approach that it has made.
3
That was a very difficult motion to vote against. I
4
accept it and accept it gracefully because it is- a combina-
5
tion of the language of the Majority and of the Minority,
6
and I think we can work everything else out all right. I
7
do believe that the people of this State, because of recent
8
attachement, and I call your attention to the Draft
9
Constitution about the appointment of the State superin-
10
tendent. The people do feel that that office will become
11
political. I refer my friend, Dr. Winslow, to probably
12
the most stringent and most definite requirement that the
13
State board and the State Superintendent of Schools of
14
Nebraska be in the Constitution. I refer also to New York
15
and others. I believe, sir, that it would be better and
16
safer and more consoling and comforting, if you please, to
17
the people of the State, if this were in there.
18
I realize what you have done to the others, and
19
I respectfully ask your support and that we hurry up and
20
get this thing over with. We have taken the first part.
21
Let's take this one, and then get on to the other business.
