SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the corporate powers of the George's Creek Coal
& Iron Co., a corporation incorporated by the Act of the Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland, passed at its December Session,
eighteen hundred and thirty-five, Chapter three hundred and
twenty-eight, amended and supplemented by the Act of said
General Assembly, passed at the adjourned May Session,
eighteen hundred and thirty-six, thereof, Chapter three hun-
dred and eighty-two, be and the same are Jiereby enlarged,
and that the said company may acquire by purchase or lease,
or otherwise hold and own coal and mineral lands and veins
or seams of coal, and also natural gas and oil territory and
wells in West Virginia and other States than Maryland, with
all necessary mining and drilling rights and privileges; may
mine and sell coal therefrom, and make and sell coke and all
by-products of coal and coke; may drill oil wells and natural
gas wells and vend the products thereof, and may acquire
and own such other lands, and construct all such buildings,
plant, roads, switches, works and machinery and fixtures as
may be necessary for or useful in carrying on the business of
a colliery proprietor or natural gas or oil-producer in said
State of West Virginia and other States as aforesaid, and may
also carry on in said State of West Virginia a general whole-
sale or retail merchandise business, and acquire and hold real
estate therefor.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the president and
directors of the George's Creek Coal & Iron Co. be and they
are hereby authorized to appoint a vice-president of said com-
pany, if they shall deem it necessary to do so.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 597.
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 1, of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Allegany County," under the
sub-title "Taxes," to follow Section two hundred and
thirty of said Article, and to be numbered Section 23oA.

May appoint
vice-president.

SECTION T. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
the Code of Public Local Laws, Article 1, title "Allegany
County," under the sub-title "Taxes," to follow Section two
hundred and thirty of said Article, and to be numbered Sec-
tion 230 A, and to read as follows:
