192. The Board of Street Commissioners shall appoint
regular policemen not exceeding ten, and the said Street Com-
missioners shall designate one of the number as "chief" or
"captain," and another as "lieutenant." The said police-
men shall serve under such regulations and for such compen-
sation as the Board of Street Commissioners may direct, such
compensation not, however, to exceed fifty dollars per month
for the said "chief" or "captain," forty-five dollars per month

other members of the force, and said policemen shall be subject
to removal for cause; they shall have power to appoint special
policemen if in their judgment the exigencies of the town
shall require it; provided, however, that the term of appoint-
ment of such special policemen shall not exceed a period of
six days. If at any time, for the better conduct and regula-
tion of the fire department of Hagerstown, the Mayor and
Council shall provide by ordinance for the office of fire mar-
shal or assistant fire marshal, the incumbent of the said
respective offices for the time being, for the more effectual

discharge of their duties and the protection of property, shall
during the time of fires have all the powers of a policeman of
the town of Hagerstown, and said marshal and assistant mar-
shal shall take the oath prescribed for policemen of said town,
and shall serve without pay.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 392.
AN ACT to declare the sanction and consent of the General
Assembly of Maryland to the bequest to the Manor Ceme-
tery of Washington County, contained in the last will and
testament of William James, late of Washington County,
Maryland.

Fire Marshal.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sanction and consent of the General Assembly
of Maryland be and the same is hereby declared, given and
granted to the bequest of five hundred dollars to the Manor
Cemetery of Washington County, a body corporate, contained
in the last will and testament of William James, deceased, late
of Washington County, Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
