capacity shall be granted, awarded or paid a retiring salary
on account of physical or mental disability or diseases,
unless certificate of so many of the police surgeons or other
competent and reputable physicans, as the Board of Police
Commissioners may require, which shall set forth the cause,
nature and extent of the disability, disease or injury
of such members, shall be filed in the office of the board, and
no member shall hereafter be retired upon salary or be sala-
ried, nor shall any moneyor salary be awarded, granted or
paid, except as provided in this chapter, and Chapter four
hundred and ninety-four of the Acts of the General Assembly
of Maryland, passed at the January Session, eighteen hun-
dred and ninety-eight; any other law to the contrary notwith-
standing. The said Board of Police Commissioners is author-
ized and empowered to make and adopt all such rules, orders
and regulations, as are or may be necessary to carry out and
enforce the provisions of this Act.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 267.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
two hundred and twenty -seven of Article 23 of the Code of
Public General Laws, title "Corporations."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section two hundred and twenty-seven of Article
23 of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, title
"Corporations," be and thesame is hereby repealed, amended
and re-enacted, to read as follows:

Corporations.

227. Any such corporation formed as aforesaid may, with
the consent of the majority of the owners of the capital stock
of such corporations, given in general meeting, extend their
lines of telegraph into any other State or may construct
branch lines in this State or any other State, or may lease,
sell or convey its property, rights, privileges and franchises
or any interest therein or any part thereof to any telegraph
company organized under or created by the laws of this or
any other State, and may acquire by lease, purchase or con-
veyance the property rights, privileges and franchises
or any interest therein or any part thereof of any
telegraph company organized under and created by the
laws of this or any other State upon such terms and
