LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Town Council of Oakland, and to improve the streets of said
town, and for the purpose of purchasing and operating an
electric light plant for the use and benefit of said town of
Oakland, and to levy a tax on the assessable property within
said town to pay said bonds and the interest thereon, be and
and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read
as follows:

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That to redeem said bonds
the Mayor and Town Council of the town of Oakland be and
they are hereby authorized to levy a special tax, not exceed-
ing twenty-five cents on each one hundred dollars of the
assessable property within the corporate limits of said town,
to pay the interest upon the bonds so issued under the pro-
visions of the aforesaid Act, Chapter twenty-four of the Acts
of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at the January
session, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, said tax to be
levied annually. The purpose of this provision is to provide
a sinking fund to pay the principal of said bonds as shall
annually mature, according to the respective tenor of the
aforesaid bonds, and said levy shall be designated as the
bonded debt; and provided further, that this section shall in
nowise conflict with Section one hundred and eighty of Chap-
ter twenty -five of the Acts of eighteen hundred and ninety -
eight, authorizing the said Mayor and Town Council to levy
and collect a tax of fifty cents on each one hundred dollars
worth of assessable property in any one year; but the above
special tax shall be in addition to said tax so authorized in
the aforesaid Section one hundred and eighty.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

tions made by the State to any association or incorporated
institution maintained for industrial, educational, medical,
humane, military or charitable purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That all associations or incorporated institutions, main-
tained for industrial, educational, medical, humane, military
or charitable purposes, securing any appropriation from the
