JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Assented lo by the General Assembly of Maryland, at a session
begun on the third day of January and ended on the
second day of April, 1900.

 

WHEREAS, Limestone College, at Gaffney, South Carolina,
with the hearty approbation of Mrs. Jefferson Davis, has es-
tablished the Winnie Davis School of History, in which,
while not neglecting other branches of the subject, especial
emphasis will be laid upon Southern History and Southern
Literature, in which the rich historical material of the South
may be collected, preserved, organized and interpreted, in
which through instruction in history is to be given by expert
scholars trained in university methods, and in which histori-
cal investigations will be given cordial welcome and afforded
every assistance; therefore,

Resolved, That the Legislature of the State of Maryland,
heartily approving this movement, hereby directs the State
Librarian to donate to The Winnie Davis School of History
a copy of each and every historical publication issued by au-
thority of the State of Maryland.

Joint Resolution and Memorial of the General Assembly of
the State of Maryland, to the Congress of the United States,
for the passage of a bill to reimburse and indemnify the
Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick.

WHEREAS, On July 9th, 1864, during the progress of the
late Civil War, the town of Frederick, in the State of Mary-
land, was seized by the Confederate army under General Jubal
A. Early, and the said army, by way of retaliation against the
Government of the United States for the destruction of prop-
erty by the Union armies in the Confederate States of America,
exacted from said town, under pain of the pillage and burn-
ing thereof, the sum of two hundred thousand dollars: and,

WHEREAS, The State of Maryland had faithfully satisfied
all the requisitions made upon it by the Government of the
United States in the prosecution of said war, and was entitled
to receive for itself and the said town of Frederick from the
