shall expire; the applicant for such license shall pay said
clerk for the same the sum of one dollar and ninety cents per
gross ton, according to the capacity of the vessel to be
licensed, which capacity shall be determined by gross ton-
nage, and all boats measuring less than five tons gross shall
pay eight dollars for such license; but it shall be lawful for the
owner of any such licensed boat to transfer his license to a pur-
chaser of said boat who has been a bona fide resident of said
county for twelve months next preceding said transfer, which
license, when transferred, shall entitle said vendee, after he
has taken before the clerk the oath or affirmation required of
the vender, to all the rights and privileges of the said vender
under said license. The clerk shall endorse the date and the
name of the vendee upon said license, and receive from said
vendee the sum of twenty cents; every license shall state the
name and residence of the person to whom the same is granted ;
the name, number and tonnage of the boat, if over five tons
gross, custom-house measurement. In addition to the tonnage

fee hereinbefore provided, said clerk at the time of issuing
said license shall inquire under oath of the applicant how
many men he intends to carry on such boat in any capacity,
and shall receive from said applicant the sum of fifty cents
per month for three months for each person so to be carried
on said boat, and he shall endorse the same on such license,
and said licensee may in his discretion collect the same from
the persons so to be carried on said boats, and until such
license is obtained, it shall be unlawful to use or employ any
vessel or boat in taking or catching oysters as hereinbefore
described; provided further, that the said clerk of the court
upon the application of the managing owner, a resident of said

county as aforesaid, and no other person, of a boat of the size
of ten and fifty -two one-hundredths tons gross or under, which
was licensed to take oysters as aforesaid with scoops, scrapes
or dredges in the waters of said county for the dredging
season ending March 15, 1900, be and he is hereby authorized
and directed upon a certificate of the admeasurers herein-
before referred to, and upon full compliance with the pro-
visions of this section and Section two hundred and fifty -six
to issue a license for the use of said boat in taking oysters in
the waters aforesaid in the manner aforesaid; but no license
shall issue to any boat so licensed for said dredging season
ending March 15, 1900, the tonnage of which is greater than
ten and fifty two one hundredths by the rules of custom-house
measurement to be ascertained by said admeasurers; and if
said clerk shall issue such license without the said admeasurers
certificate, when said certificate is necessary, or in any way
