CHAPTER 658.
AN ACT to establish a Board of State Sidepath Commis-
sioners, and to provide revenue for the repair and construc-
tion of sidepaths for bicycles and protect the said paths
from injury and trespassers.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Governor is hereby authorized to appoint five
active wheelmen, two of whom shall be residents of Baltimore
City, to constitute a Board of State Sidepath Commissioners,
who shall serve without compensation except their actual and
necessary disbursements in the performance of their duties,

and whose term of office shall be designated at one, two, three,
four and five years, and until their respective successsors shall
be appointed. As the term of office of each commissioner
expires the Governor shall appoint a successor thereto for
the full term of five years, and he shall fill any vacancy which
may occur in such Board of Sidepath Commissioners for the
balance of any unexpired term.

SEC. 2. Such Board of State Sidepath Commissioners shall
appoint, upon the petition of fifteen resident wheelmen in any
county, a County Board of Sidepath Commissioners to consist
of five resident wheelmen, upon the approval of the County

of Sidepath Commissioners shall exercise the powers and per-
form the duties of a local Board of Sidepath Commissioners
of Baltimore City, such as are provided in this Act for the
County Board of Sidepath Commissioners in any county. The
term of office of the County Board of Sidepath Commissioners
shall be co-existent with that of the Board of State Sidepath
Commissioners.

SEC. 3. Any County Board of Sidepath Commissioners hav-
ing first obtained the consent in writing of the County Commis-
-sioners, with the advice and consent of the State Board of
Sidepath Commissioners, shall be authorized to lay out, con-
struct and maintain sidepaths along the edges of any public
highway in the county from which they are appointed, between
the traveled portions thereof and the line of the abutting
property; and the County Commissioners of any county are
hereby empowered to exercise all the duties and powers which
the road laws of any county may provide, so far as the laws
are applicable, to enable and assist in building the sidepaths
as provided in this Act.
