Commissioner's Office, under the supervision and direc-
tion of the Commissioner of the Land Office, for which
service shall be allowed and paid the same rate allowed
by law for indexing the land records now in said office,
and the Comptroller of the Treasury is hereby directed
to issue his warrants for such sums as may from time
to time be necessary to meet the cost of such indexing,
upon the certificate of the correctness of the same given
by the Commissioner of the Land Office, and the sum of
one thousand dollars, ($1000. 00, ) or so much thereof as
may be necessary, is hereby appropriated annually for
said purpose of such indexing.

"Section 5. And be it further enacted, That the aforesaid
clerk shall make searches into and make copies of the
Prerogative Court records aforesaid, under the direction
and control of the Commissioner of the Land Office and
the Commissioner of the Land Office shall receive therefor
fees at the same rate now charged for copies of and
searches for records in Ms office, and that the said clerk
shall receive a sum equal to one-half (1/2) of the revenues
derived from said fees, and to be paid in same manner as
is provided for paying the indexing.

"Section 6. And be it enacted, That for the purpose of
storing into the Prerogative Court records aforesaid, and
for such other records and documents of the Land Office
and such use as may be necessary, the office in the public
office building known as the "Canal Office, " is hereby
placed under the charge and control of the Commissioner
of the Land Office for such purposes.

"Section 7. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage. "

Mr. Latrobe, from the Committee on Ways and Means,
reported favorably,

Senate Joint Resolution to protect the interest of the
State of Maryland, in respect to the stock held by it in
the Washington Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail-
road Company.

Which was considered on its second reading and pas-
sed by yeas and nays, as follows:
