Purnell may
sell, &c. |
purchase money agreeably to the directions of the said last will, and
this general assembly have
thought it proper that the said last will and testament of the said John
should have effect, as fully and
amply as if the said deed of confirmation had been executed prior to
the execution of the said last
will; in order therefore to render the same indisputable,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the said Elisha, Littleton and
George Purnell, or a majority of them, be and they are hereby authorised
and empowered to sell
and convey a good and indefeasible estate, in fee-simple, of, in and to
the same lands and tenements,
to wit, part of the tracts called Spaldon, Father's Care, Number One, and
Fraternity, as fully and
amply as if the said deed of confirmation from the said Elisha to the said
John had been executed
prior to the date of the said last will of the said John. |

A Further supplement to the act, entitled, An act for the relief
of
sundry insolvent debtors.
BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That all
and singular the person and persons
whose names are contained in the act, entitled, An act for the relief of
sundry insolvent
debtors, passed at November session, seventeen hundred and ninety-nine,
and who have not
petitioned for the benefit of the said act, shall and they are hereby declared
to have the full benefit
of the act for the relief of sundry insolvent debtors, passed this session,
as fully and amply as if their
and each of their names were specially inserted in said last mentioned
act.
II. AND BE IT ENACTED, That so much of the
said act of November, one thousand seven hundred
and ninety-nine, as is inconsistent with or contrary to the perview of
this act, and of the
act to which this is a supplement, be and the same is hereby repealed.
III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That each insolvent
debtor under this and the original act, and under
the act, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled, An act for the relief
of sundry insolvent debtors,
passed during the present session, at the time of his application to the
chancery court for relief,
shall pay to the register of the court of the chancery a tax of five dollars,
to be by him paid over as
other taxes to the treasurer of the western shore. |

Preamble.
Provisions extended,
&c. |
A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the relief of sundry
insolvent
debtors.
WHEREAS Joseph Magruder, Nathan Hughes, Clement Chamberlain, Lewis
Duvall, King
English and Richard T. Cheseldine, of Montgomery county, by their petitions
to this general
assembly have set forth, that by reason of many misfortunes they are unable
wholly to satisfy
their creditors, and have prayed for the benefit of an act of insolvency,
upon their delivering up all
their property for the use of their creditors; therefore,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the several provisions of the act
passed this present session, entitled, An act for the relief of sundry
insolvent debtors, shall be and
are hereby extended to the said persons, in as full and ample manner as
if their names had been inserted
in the said act, any thing to the contrary notwithstanding. |

admitted, &c. |
An ACT for the relief of James Colquhoun.
WHEREAS James Colquhoun, a prisoner in Baltimore gaol, hath represented
to the present
general assembly, by petition, that he is unable to pay his debts, and
prayed the benefit of
an act of insolvency in his favour: And whereas it further appears,
by a certain memorial offered
by the said Colquhoun, that he is not a citizen of this state, and it being
inconsistent with the principles
of humanity that the said James Colquhoun should be confined in gaol, if
he will bonâ fide deliver
up all his property for the benefit of his creditors,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the said James Colquhoun be and
he is hereby admitted to all the benefits, and subjected to all the provisions,
of the act for the relief
of sundry insolvent debtors, passed this session, except such as are thereby
restricted to merchants
and traders; provided, that he shall make it appear to the chancellor,
that he hath surrendered up, |
