It not being convenient for the agent to act in that
capacity the ensuing year, and not being influenced by
any other motive than the prosperity and welfare of the state, he with
confidence suggests an opinion, that the
continuance of an agent to superintend the collection of the revenue is
highly important to the interest of the
state of Maryland.

ORDERED, That the same be referred to the committee
of finance, to consider and report thereon.
A petition from Thomas Bucklie, counter to the petition
of Konecke and Kramar, was preferred, read, and
referred to the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.
On motion, ORDERED, That the committee on the petitions
of Thomas J. Beatty, and others, be discharged,
and that the said petitions be referred to the committee appointed on the
petitions of sundry insolvent debtors
to consider and report thereon.
A petition from Mary Shipley, administratrix of Talbot
Shipley, of Anne-Arundel county, complaining of the
improper conduct of Baruch Fowler, in his official capacity as surveyor
of Anne-Arundel county, was preferred,
read, and referred to the committee of grievances and courts of justice
to consider and report thereon.
The house adjourns till to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

A Y, November 14, 1800.
The house met. Present the same members as
on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
Petitions from Benjamin Levy, Jacob Righter, Robert
Morton, Thomas Moore, of the city of Baltimore,
William McComas, of Harford county, Gilbert Murdock, of the city of Annapolis,
Victor Lavancy, of
the city of Baltimore, and Walter W. Harwood, of Prince-George's county,
praying acts of insolvency, were
preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on petitions of
a similar nature.
Mr. Montgomery, from the committee, delivers to the
speaker a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an
act, entitled, An act to streighten and amend the public roads in Harford
county, and for other purposes; which
was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
A petition from sundry inhabitants of Queen-Anne's and
Caroline counties, praying an act may pass to prevent
the cutting of a ditch through their lands, agreeably to a law passed for
that purpose, was preferred, read, and
referred to Mr. Mason, Mr. C. Frazier and Mr. Douglas, to consider and
report thereon.
A petition from Cornelius H. Gift, sheriff and collector
of the taxes of Baltimore county, praying a further
time to complete his collection, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr.
Worthington, Mr. McCulloch and Mr.
Magruder, to consider and report thereon.
On motion, ORDERED, That Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Harwood be
added to the committee of finance.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a further supplement
to and act, entitled, An act to lay out several turnpike
roads in Baltimore county. ORDERED, That Mr. Worthington, Mr. Smith,
of Baltimore, Mr. Stansbury,
Mr. McCulloch and Mr. Lemmon, be a committee to prepare and bring in the
same.
Mr. Dashiell, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
the following report:
