720 ADDRESSES AND STATE PAPERS

work for the type bill that I supported. The same thing applies to
some of the other measures you mentioned. Implied consent — this
has been in the Legislature for years and years, so why should its
failure for maybe the fourth or fifth time be laid to the Governor's
program? It's a bill I've taken on because I think it's good, and will
continue to work for it. Some of these things have to be presented
several times before they can get through.

STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR OVERSEAS
AID CONTRIBUTIONS

March 21, 1968

In the spring of each year, America's three great faiths — Protestant,
Catholic and Jewish — appeal for contributions to finance vital and
voluntary overseas aid programs.

To the hungry and homeless, the disabled and dispossessed this aid
brings hope and proof of America's concern and commitment to the
individual. Through voluntary contributions, our nation affirms in
deed, as well as word, their compassion for those in need and their
passion to create a better world through the paths of peace.

In a time when our nation's critics abroad decry "The Ugly Ameri-
can, " the work supported through our three great faiths reveals the
generous, quiet, dedicated American.

It is my hope that the 1968 springtime campaign receives unquali-
fied support and achieves unprecedented success throughout our State
and nation.
