and I don't think we have, I want to make that clear at this moment
— if we do have additional money for the State colleges, I will leave
it up to the trustees to decide where they want to put it.

Q. At this point you don't think you'll have the money?

A. Well I think you can see with the mandated expenditures going
as high as they are it's going to be very difficult to provide any ad-
ditional spending.

Q. Governor, in your meeting with the leadership this morning did
you and the leadership agree on how long you could delay your sup-
plemental budget?

A. I asked them to give me an outside date because, as you are aware,
yesterday I had requested the Board of Revenue Estimates to come
back with a final look at the very last minute. Apparently, March 15th
or somewhere thereabouts is the date that they think would be the
very last moment that they could consider it.

Q. Can you get updated revenue estimates by then?

A. We've already asked for the last look at the figures. They may
not make any significant alterations in the figures they have, but I
want to take a last look at least. We will have one more month's sales
tax to look at within that time.

Q. Governor, are you considering the possibility of sending two
supplemental down, in other words, one based upon — in other
words, you would hold to one and?.... (fade)

A. We'd hold it till the last minute, but I would not keep the leader-
ship in the dark about what's being generated for it and would cer-
tainly keep them advised what the situation is so that it wouldn't
hit them at the last moment as a total surprise.

Q. Governor, is there any significant legislative opposition to the
bill to abolish the Metropolitan Transit Authority?

A. I haven't heard it if there is.

Q. What is the general purpose of the bill? Why do you want to
abolish it?

A. I have always felt that the elected officials have to be more di-
rectly involved in the transit planning process and that's why I cre-
ated the Metropolitan Transit Steering Committee. That committee
has proved to be a very effective one thus far and most of the people
