500 ADDRESSES AND STATE PAPERS

This year with the appointment of a new Dean of the Evening Di-
vision, Anne Arundel Community College has begun a concerted ef-
fort to assess and respond to the demands for continuing education.

However, it is in the area of undergraduate programs that Anne
Arundel Community College has achieved a record of excellence that
merits the recognition and commendation of its County and State.
The transfer program presently offers five curricula which parallel
four-year institutions of higher education's program. The career pro-
gram offers six curricula which combine academic and technical train-
ing in the most fertile employment fields.

The State administration, acutely aware of the need for nurses,
medical technicians, and career workers in all levels of government,
is especially appreciative of the priority Anne Arundel Community
College has given these programs.

"Love knowledge and love it very, very much" is the English trans-
lation of Anne Arundel Community College's motto; and its trustees,
faculty, and administrators have carefully, sensitively and sensibly
charted a course to reach this objective. Not only in curricula but in
intellectual climate, the college has affirmed its creed. While the beauty
and excitement of this new campus cannot be denied, it is the dedica-
tion of human spirit that has brought the college to this day that in-
spires and gives meaning to the dedication of a structure.

In six years, in conditions far from ideal, the Anne Arundel Com-
munity College has continuously moved forward, evolving programs,
expanding enrollment. Now, at its new location, in facilities designed
specifically for community college functions, we can look for even
greater growth and anticipate even greater achievement.

ADDRESS TO MARYLAND CONGRESS OF PARENTS
AND TEACHERS, INC., BALTIMORE

November 3, 1967

The theme of this convention has been "Weights That Count, " and
in the past days you have identified, examined and assessed some of
those weights in depth and detail. Tonight, I plan to discuss some
of the weights which your State has recently applied and to cite
other weights that have been, or should be, added to tip Maryland's
educational scale to our students' advantage.
