NEWS CONFERENCE 301

Q. Governor, a while back you gave your report on Mr. Eney for
the Convention head. Do you still feel Mr. Eney will be desirable?

A. I think Mr. Eney would be a very fine choice to head the Con-
vention.

Q. How about Governor Tawes?

A. I think Governor Tawes would do a very adequate job as the
chairman of the Convention.

Q. George Delia?

A. I don't have any particular feeling against Mr. Delia. I think
he's experienced, but my choice would have to be Mr. Eney.

Q. How about Mr. Gallagher?
A. We could be here all day.

Q. Governor, speaking of choices, do you have a new candidate in
mind for the Republican presidential nomination?

A. No, I've been a little too busy to worry about national politics,
lately.

Q. Speaking of choices, how about a new Banking Commissioner?

A. I expect that will be ready for announcement within the next
three or four days.

Q. Have you decided on who will head the Department of Building,
Savings and Loan Associations?

A. Again, this is something that's imminent that hasn't been de-
cided yet, but I expect it within the next three or four days.

Q. You reported recently that only one of the candidates on the list
was a serious candidate. Do you still find that to be true?

A. No, I haven't verified that contention by making any effort to
call the nominees on the list. I do have a meeting set with Mr. Housley
to discuss the general situation with him and that's why the appoint-
ment is being held up.

Q. Governor, how sensitive an agency is this department?

A. I think it's a very sensitive agency. I think that, because of the
past scandals in the area, we've got to be extremely careful that the
person we have not only has the knowledge and the ability to perform
well but has the confidence of the people in the institutions.
