Maryland, like the rest of the country, is now enjoying a period of
the greatest prosperity in its history, and the farmers of our State, as
they should, of course, are sharing in this overall good fortune....

And now, it is my privilege and my pleasure to present certificates
to the farm families of Maryland which have been selected, because of
their achievements in farm and home practices, for recognition as
Master Farm Families.

To Mr. and Mrs. J. Berkman Morris and family, of historic St.
Mary's County, where the colony of Maryland was planted more than
three centuries ago.

To Mr. and Mrs. Cecil K. Holter, Sr., and family, of Frederick
County, the birthplace and cradle of some of Maryland's most il-
lustrious sons, including the author of our national anthem, Francis
Scott Key.

To Mr. and Mrs. Clifford B, Smith and family, of rich, progressive,
forward-looking Harford County.

To Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shockly, Jr., and family of Wicomico
County, the agricultural and industrial center of our great Eastern
Shore area and known as the Sweet Potato County.

And to Mr. and Mrs. Marion L. Holland and family, my Eastern
Shore neighbors of lovely Worchester, our only seashore county, also
known as the Inland Game and Fish County.

To all of you, I offer my sincere congratulations and encourage you
to accept this award as a challenge to do even greater things in the
future.

One again, may I express my profound appreciation to the pub-
lishers of Progressive Farmer for their graciousness and their hos-
pitality.
