Administration and are most eager that in the future we continue to
move forward hand-in-hand in the pursuit of a common purpose—the
protection of the people. We know that the location of this laboratory
and administration building within the confines of our State is of great
benefit to our State and local agencies in their efforts to protect the
public. And so, as a representative of the people of Maryland, I con-
sider it a high privilege to be able to come here today to join with
you in the dedication of this facility. Let us dedicate it to the good
health of all the people, reminding ourselves as we do so of the maxim
of a great philosopher (Will Durant) that "the health of nations is
more important than the wealth of nations. "

REMARKS ON RECEIVING THE HUMANITARIAN AWARD

OF THE BALTIMORE CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN

MEDICAL CENTER OF DENVER

BALTIMORE
October 28, 1964

It was courteous and thoughtful of you to invite me here this evening
to this annual Humanitarian Award Dinner of the Baltimore Chapter
of the American Medical Center of Denver. Quite naturally, I am
both pleased and honored that this great organization of men and
women who have devoted so much of their time, their talent and their
resources to the search for the cure of cancer has selected me as the
recipient of this award. This plaque I shall cherish among the most
prized of my possessions. I am deeply honored, I assure you, that a
section of the Medical Center in Denver will be named for me. May
I take this opportunity to commend and congratulate the dinner com-
mittee of this organization for staging this affair for the benefit of its
Cancer Research Institute. May I congratulate the Chapter and all
of its individual members for the generous, selfless efforts they are
making, and have made, to prevent and cure cancer and to relieve the
sufferings of the many victims of that disease. And may I also express
the gratitude of this community and this State to the many persons
who have made their donations here this evening to such a worth-while
cause. The gifts you have made are to be used in the service of man-
kind. Your reward is the feeling that you have in your souls that you
have done something for the betterment of the lot of your fellow
human beings.
