community, they should be able to reinforce one another so that one
and one will add to a lot more than two.
With the enthusiasm and competence that have surrounded this
project so far, I have no doubt that they will.
REMARKS, DEDICATION OF THE NEW PLANT OF THE
EASTERN SCHOKCRETE CORPORATION
BRANDYWINE
June 10, 1965
President Rothenhaus and other officers of the Eastern Schokcrete
Corporation, Chairman Manekin and other members of the Maryland
Economic Development Commission, Director Hubley and other rep-
resentatives of our State Department of Economic Development, dis-
tinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
The State of Maryland and the various communities which com-
prise it have been making a strong effort during the past few years
to strengthen our economy by encouraging the growth of new business
and industry. It is, therefore, with great pleasure that I, as Governor
of the State, welcome to our growing Maryland Industrial Community
this new manufacturing plant of the Eastern Schokcrete Corporation,
which I am told is the largest architectural precast concrete manu-
facturer in the United States.
In bringing this plant to our State, Mr. Rothenhaus, and the others
of you who are here today representing Eastern Schokcrete, you have
given evidence of your confidence in Maryland — in its economic
stability and in its capacity to grow. For this display of confidence
in us, the people of Maryland are grateful to you. In return for this
confidence I can assure you that the State government — and I think
I can also speak for the government of Prince George's County —
will cooperate with you in every way to make it possible for your
company to prosper and earn profits. There is every reason in the
world why this community of Brandywine, this County and this State
should be pleased with the acquisition of this new industrial plant.
First of all, it creates new jobs. I am informed that its employment
will reach 100, with an annual payroll of $750, 000, during the first
year, and that a 300-per-cent expansion is expected within five years.
And then, it broadens the tax base, with consequent boon to the
individual taxpayers. And while I am hesitant to dwell upon the un-
