an opportunity to briefly review the history of the Alcolac Chemical
Corporation and the activities of your president, Dr. Blinoff. It is
truly an amazing success story and an inspiring one. I can assure
you that your State government will continue to do all in its power
to facilitate your growth and to create the kind of economic atmos-
phere beneficial to industry.
In closing, permit me to express to you, on behalf of the people
of this State my thanks for the confidence you have shown in Mary-
land through the expansion of this facility and my good wishes for
continued success. And now, as a symbol of our cooperative effort
for the mutual interests of Maryland and this corporation, it gives me
great pleasure to present to you, Dr. Blinoff, this flag of the State of
Maryland.
REMARKS, DEDICATION OF THE NEW CHALK POINT
GENERATING STATION, CHALK POINT
October 7, 1964
Mr. Dunn, Mr. Neal, officers, directors and employees of the Poto-
mac Electric Power Company, distinguished guests, ladies and gen-
tlemen:
I am delighted to have the opportunity to be here today for the
dedication for this new generating plant of the Potomac Electric
Company. May I begin by offering my sincere congratulation to the
officers and management of Pepco for their vision and their enter-
prise in erecting this truly magnificent generating station. And as
Governor, may I express the thanks of the people of Maryland, and
especially those living in this Washington Metropolitan Area, to the
company for this valuable adjunct to the social and economic life
of this community.
Some five years ago, (it was in September of 1959 as I recall) I had
the privilege of attending the dedicatory ceremony for the opening
of the Dickerson Plant of Pepco. At the time, I said the power plant
would stand as a monument to our American system of free enter-
prise, refuting the alien doctrine we sometimes hear that capitalism,
motivated by the desire for profit, breeds evil and dissatisfaction
among the people. I restate that proposition here today as we dedi-
cate the Chalk Point generating station of Pepco. For here, as was
the case at Dickerson, we see demonstrated by deed private indus-
try's willingness and capacity to serve the needs of the people and
