I was informed that 35 applicants have entered training and others
are under consideration.
During this past summer, the Employment Service Division in co-
operation with two other State agencies was of vital assistance to me
in the development of a nine week job training program on the
Eastern Shore. Certainly the experience learned from this program
will do much to assist us and others in implementing the federal
government's Job Corps program. More importantly, however, this
program was in no small measure responsible for bringing peace to
some of our communities here in Maryland. For die latter accom-
plishment alone, the people of this State owe the Employment Serv-
ice Division a deep debt of gratitude and, as Governor, I am ex-
tremely proud of your performance.
Again, my thanks to those who worked so diligently in bringing
to realization the Apprenticeship Information Center. You have my
assurances of continued support and my good wishes for success.
REMARKS, DEDICATION OF RESEARCH CENTER AND
EXECUTIVE OFFICES ALCOLAC CHEMICAL CORPORATION
BALTIMORE
September 15, 1964
Dr. Blinoff, Mr. Dulaney, Mr. Pacifico, Mr. Weibel, officials of the
Alcolac Chemical Corporation, distinguished guests and ladies and
gentlemen:
I was delighted when my good friend, Bill Dulaney, contacted me
a month ago and extended an invitation to participate in these cere-
monies today dedicating the expanded offices and research facilities
of the Alcolac Chemical Corporation.
It is always most heartening and encouraging to me, as Governor
of Maryland, to either welcome a new industry to our State or to
participate in the expansion of existing plants and facilities. It
demonstrates first of all that the members of the business community
of this State and nation have confidence that Maryland will continue
to provide the type of economic climate that is conducive to good
business operations.
Secondly, it demonstrates an awareness on the part of industrial
and business leaders that Maryland is a good place in which to live
and to work with fine schools, good roads, contented communities
