Maryland, have an excellent opportunity to increase your present
overseas business, or if not already engaged, to seriously consider
entering this field. You will be addressed by experts in the govern-
ment and from industry, and I feel sure that the information you
receive today will be beneficial not only to the plans of your individual
companies but to our State as well.
This conference has been called today to give you the experience
of the McCormick & Company in its successful export and import
procedures. The other two panel members are experts of the Depart-
ment of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture who will brief
you on information available through these government agencies for
finding markets and sources of supply.
I wish you well in this meeting and sincerely hope that through
the efforts initiated here today a brighter future will evolve for all
of you.
REMARKS, DEDICATION OF NEW WALDORF BANK

Mr. Moreland, Mr. Wyvill, Reverend Clergy, Distinguished Guests
and Ladies and Gentlemen:
Perhaps many of you will recall that, back in 1950, when I served as
Bank Commissioner of Maryland, I issued the charter for the Waldorf
Bank and accompanied Governor William Preston Lane here for
dedication ceremonies. At that time, the capitalization of the Waldorf
Bank was $300, 000. Now, of course, I serve as Governor of the State
of Maryland and your capital assets here have risen to over $10 million
Somehow, I suspect that you people have done a bit better than I
have over the past decade and a half. I noticed also that, although
the management of the State of Maryland may have changed hands
several times during the past 14 years, the management of the Waldorf
Bank has remained substantially the same. If memory serves me cor-
rectly, I believe that Mr. Moreland was President of the Waldorf
Bank at the time that the charter was granted and that Mr. Wyvill
has been serving as Vice-President and Treasurer for a similar period
of time.
I strongly suspect that one of the more important reasons that all
of us are gathered here today to dedicate the fine new facilities for
the Waldorf Bank is because of the work of these two men and their
