wish to continue the government of Maryland under Democratic
Party auspices. We Democrats have had a good administrations and
can be justly proud of our accomplishments. If I may borrow and
slightly change a famous quote — we have nothing to fear but our-
selves.

In line with this concept of continuing our programs there are
two commissions which were very recently appointed and which are
probably of particular interest to you ladies. The Constitutional Con-

may do such widespread harm, nor is there another in which he may
so easily lose his own soul, nor is there another in which a poitive
and strict veracity is so difficult. But danger is the inseparable com-
panion of honor. With all the temptations and degradations that
beset it, politics is still the noblest career that any man can choose. "

I was particularly grateful, therefore, to have been asked to come
here today, because, among other things, it affords me a forum in
which I may express to Democrats here and elsewhere my profound
appreciation for the many honors I have received from this great
Party. Under our American system of government, a political party
