The people of Maryland, along with Americans everywhere, have a
long tradition of supporting and encouraging the cause of freedom
throughout the world.

The efforts that are being made to free war prisoners in Cuba is
inspiring to me, as I know it is to Americans everywhere, and I certainly
am in sympathy with the desire to release from prison those men whose
only interest was in freeing their country.

I congratulate you on your efforts in their behalf and wish you con-
tinued success in your struggle for freedom.
