purpose. Do not hesitate to use this information. Do not shrink before
the glare as the spotlight of public opinion scrutinizes our party's
record and the record of our opponents. We will emerge the better
of the two, I can assure you. The Democratic campaign kit that is
being provided you today has been carefully prepared. In it you will
find the highlights of the record established by this Administration
during its first term in office....

From this day forward and until November 6, the campaign will
grow in intensity. It is important that all of us are adequately pre-
pared to meet the challenge of the next few months. We on the
state level already have made many plans for the campaign. The
meeting here today—the bringing together of candidates for the
House of Delegates and State Senate from throughout die State—is
just one manifestation of the many projects underway....

The remainder of today's meeting will consist of a series of dis-
cussions concerning various aspects of staff government. The men
who will follow me are experts in their respective fields. We are
fortunate indeed that such men recognize the importance of an
informed and alert citi7enry and it is for that reason that they are
present here today....

In closing, let me take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for
attending today's meeting. The mere fact that you are here is con-
crete evidence of your interest in the issues that affect the folks back
home. This wonderful turnout is also evidence that the Democratic
Party, as a unit, is responsive to the needs of the citizens of this State.

There is every reason to believe that the people will be equally
responsive in November.

ADDRESS, UNITED DEMOCRATIC WOMEN'S CLUBS
OCEAN CITY
August 25, 1962

It is a pleasure indeed to be here once again at a convention of
the Democratic women of Maryland. This annual gathering is a
red-letter day on the calendar of all Democrats. There is no event
in the annals of our Party which stimulates more political discussion,
which creates more political interest, than this yearly meeting of the
United Democratic Women's Cub of Maryland....
