[136] MARYLAND ss. William the third by the grace of God of England
Scottland France and Ireland King Defender of the faith etc. to the Justices of
our Provinciall Court Greeting Because in the Record and process and ren-
dring of Judgment of a Certein Action of Covenant heretofore depending
before the Justices of our Said Court Between James Bowling late of Charles
County Gent plt and Gerrard Slye of St Marys County Defendt Manifest
Error as 'tis Said has happened to the Great Damage of the Said Gerrard as
of his Complaint we have received, We Willing that the Error (if any be)
Should in due manner be Corrected and full and Speedy Justice done to the
Said Parties in this behalfe do Command you that the Record and Process
of the Action and Judgmt afd together with all things touching the Same
before our Govr and Councill Sitting att Annapolis to hear Appeals and
writts of Error under your hands and Seales distinctly and Openly You Send
That Inspection being thereunto had We may Cause to be done what accord-
ing to right and the Laws of England and of this our Province ought to be
done herein Also that you Cause that Benjamin Hall of Charles County and
Mary his Wife Executrix of the Said James be Summoned That if to the Said
Ex1 it Shall Seem meet they may be then there to hear to the Said Errors
hereof faile not and have You then there this Writt Witness our Selfe att
Annapolis in Ann Arundell County the i8th day of March in the Eleaventh
Year of our Reigne Annoque Dni 1698.

[137] MARYLAND ss. In the Records of the Provinciall Court amongst
other things it is therein Conteined —
That upon the 17th day of Feb'y in the Year of our Lord 1681 Comand
was Given the Sherriffe of St Marys County to take Gerrard Slye of St Marys
County Mercht So that he Should have him before the Justices of the Provll
Court to be held att the City of St Marys the 28th day of Feb'y Instant to An-
swer unto James Bowling of a plea That he hold to him the Covenant made
between them According to the force forme and Effect of a Certein Writing
Indented thereof between them and which to hold he Ought etc.
Att which Said Twenty Eighth day of Febry Came the Said Gerrard Slye
by Thomas Burford his Attorney and Appeared thereto and prayed Liberty
to Imparle untill the next provll Court which was Granted unto him the
Same Day was Given to the PI1 Also.
Att which Said next Provll Court to witt Att a Provl Court begun and
held att the City of St Marys the 2d day of May in the Year of our Lord 1682
the Said Cause was further Continued untill the Next Provll Court.
Att which Said Next Provinciall Court to witt Att a Provl Court held att
the City of St Marys the 10th day of October in the Seaventh Year of the R'
