At a Session of ASSEMBLY, begun and held at
Baltimore-Town, in Baltimore County, on
Friday
the Eighth Day of April, in the Sixth Year of
the
Dominion of the Right Honourable FREDERICK,
absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces
of Maryland and Avalon, Lord Baron of
Baltimore,
&c. and ended the 9th Day of May following,
in the 7th Year of his Lordship's Dominion,
Annoq; Domino, 1757: The following Laws
were

An Act for his Majesty's Service, and the more immediate Defence
and Protection
of the Frontier Inhabitants of this Province.

N.B. By
this Act, the Sum of 7469 l. 17 s. 4 d. the remaining
Part of the 25000 l. granted
by 1756, ch. 5, towards carrying on an Expedition to the Westward,
which was yet unapplied;
(See 1756, ch. 19,) and a farther Sum of 3000 l. granted
by the same Act, for engaging the ASsistance,
&c. of the Southern Indians, amounting in the Whole to 10469
l. 17 s. 4 d. was appropriated
to the Raising, Cloathing, Paying, &c. of 500 Men (including those
under the Command
of Col. Dagworthy) to be paid, &c. from the 10th April 1757.
Such Parts of the ACt of 1756, ch. 5, as related
to the Grant of 3000 l. to be employed in engaging
the Assistance of the Southern Indians, were hereby repealed.
The Agents appointed by the Act of 1756, ch. 5,
were continued for the Purposes in this Act
mentioned, and to have a Commission of Three per Cent.
Soldiers Enlisting in this Service, on producing a Certificate
of their good Behaviour therein,
were exempted from all Levies, Labouring on Highways, and Ferriages, for
3 Years, &c. And if
Maimed in the Service, were entitled to a yearly Pension, out of the Public
Levy, according to
their Disability of getting a Livelihood; they procuring from the County
Court a Certificate,
that the party petitioning for such pension, is an Object of Charity, and
deserves to have such
Allowance.
This Act to continue in Force till the 25th December
1757.
