So the motion submitted by Mr. Mackubin,
Was not sustained.
On motion of Mr. Archer,
The Report was opened for amendment.
Mr. Archer submitted the following amendment:
Sec. 8. Insert in the 8th line, after the word " city," the
words "shall retain for his services out of the fees of his
office the sum of four thousand dollars ;"
Which was rejected.
Mr. Mackubin moved that the Report be opened to enable
him to submit the following amendment :
Sec. 8, line 8. Strikeout the words "one deputy," and
insert the words "not more than two deputies ;" line 9, in-
sert after the word "annum," the word "each;"
Decided in the negative.
On motion of Mr. Longwell,
The vote by which the Convention refused to open the Re-
port for the purpose of submitting an amendment to Section
2, was reconsidered.
On motion of Mr. Longwell, (a majority of all the
members elected concurring,)
The Report was opened for amendment.
Mr. Longwell submitted the following amendment:
Sec. 2. line IT. Strike out the words "three thousand,"
and insert the words "twenty-five hundred ;"
Pending the consideration of which,
Mr. Nicolai submitted the following amendment to the
amendment:
Strike out the word "five," and insert the word "one;"
Which was adopted.
The question then recurring upon the amendment, as
amended,
The question being upon its adoption,
Mr. Watkins, of Montgomery, demanded the previous
question.
The question then being,
" Shall the previous question be now put ?"
It was not sustained.
