So the question was decided in the negative, and the Con-
vention refused to adopt the Report of the Committee to make
the salary of the Chief Judge five thousand dollars per
annum.
The question then recurring upon filling the blank, and
upon the adoption of the amendment as submitted by Mr.
Merrick, to insert the words " four thousand,"
