Pending the reading of Section 6,
Mr. Carter submitted the following amendment:
Add at the end of Section 6, the words, "in any depart-
ment of public affairs with which his office is connected ;
Which was adopted.
Pending the reading of Section 7,
Mr. Bateman submitted the following amendment:
Strike out the word, "eight," and insert the word
"four;"
Which was adopted.
Mr. Devries submitted the following amendment:
Section 7. Strike out all after the word " thereof," in 3d
line, and insert, " and shall then expire unless continued by
the General Assembly.
Mr. Stoddert submitted the following amendment:
Section T, line 3, Strike out the word " may," and insert
the word "shall;" strike out the word "or," and insert
the word " unless ;"
Which was rejected.
The question then recurring upon the amendment sub-
mitted by Mr. Devries,
It was adopted.
The Report was then read a second time, and,
On motion of Mr. Carter,
Ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.
Mr. Bateman (the rules being suspended, two-thirds of all
the members present concurring,) submitted the following
order :
Ordered, That the Committee on the Legislative Depart-
ment be instructed to inquire into the expediency of reporting
an article to the following effect: The offices of Commissioner
of Immigration and Immigration Agent shall terminate on
the adoption of this Constitution ;
Which was adopted.
On motion of Mr. Maulsby,
The Convention then proceeded to the consideration of the
Report of the Committee respecting the Militia and Military
affairs.
Pending the consideration of the 1st Section,
