Assembly shall have power to prohibit contracts for a greater
rate than six per centum per annum.
Mr. Alvey submitted the following amendment :
Sec.—. The legal rate of interest in this State shall be six per
cent, per annum, unless the General Assembly prescribe a
different rate; but no rate that may be prescribed shall be
less than six nor more than eight per cent, per annum; and
the General Assembly shall prescribe fines and forfeitures for
the violation of this section, or any law made in performance
hereof.
Pending the considsration of which,
Mr. Mackubin by unanimous consent, submitted the follow-
ing order:
Ordered, That the report and amendments theretqnow under
consideration be re-committed with instruction to the Commit-
tee to report, that it is inexpedient to embody in the proposed
Constitution, any provision whatever on the subject.
