Mr. Buchanan submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Committee on the Legislative Depart-
ment be requested to take into consideration the expediency
of incorporating into the Constitution, some suitable provision
for the protection of male and female children under the age
of eighteen years, employed in the factories and workshops of
this State, from the excessive labor which, in some cases, is
now imposed on them, preventing their moral and physical
development, and rendering them incapable of future use-
fulness to themselves and the State; which.

extra copies of the daily Journal of Proceedings for the use
