[p. 232] as aforesaid by the President of the United States, and I do further enjoin all
the Officers of this State to be zealous and active in discouraging all proceedings that may
be inconsistent with pacific disposition announced as aforesaid, and endanger the happy state
of tranquility which this Country at present enjoys.

Given under the Seal of the State of Maryland this fourth day of May in the year of our
Lord one thousand seven hundred ninety three.

Tuesday 17th. May 1793

The Council met.
Present the Governor

Mr Brice

Mr Kilty

Mr Ridgely

Mr Pinkney

Agreeably to the Order of the Board for hearing Evidence on this Day, respecting
[p. 233]. the charges made by Charles Daffin against George Martin Surveyor of Caroline
County, the parties and their Witness attended—when it was moved and prayed by the
Complainants Counsel, that he be permitted to amend his representation by adding the
following instance of his misbehaviour not known to him when he made the other Charges
against the said Surveyor. "The Representation further states that the Surveyor of Caroline
County has conducted himself with gross ignorance or corrupt intention in the execution of
his duty as Surveyor, on a Survey of Lands made between Jones and Nicolls."

Whereupon it was Resolved that on Condition of his paying the expence of all the persons
attending as Witnesses, to be taxed by the Clerk of the Council, Mr Daffin have leave to
amend his Complaint in manner aforesaid and that the first Monday in June next be assigned
for a Hearing of testimony on the Complaint and Representation as so amended.

Summons's issued to James Summers, Thomas Boone, Charles Emory, Henry Martindale,
Thomas Hughlett, Benjamin Sylvester, Henry Nicols 3 and Thomas Hicks of Caroline
County, and Nathan Harrington of Dorchester County, severally to be and appear before the
Governor and Council on the first Monday in June next, to testify on behalf [p. 234] of
George Martin Surveyor of Caroline County on the hearing of the Complaint of Charles
Daffin.

Summons's also issued to Joshua Willis, Nathaniel Warrington of Dorchester County,
John Hardcastle, David D. Barrow of Talbot, William Jones, James Nicolls, John Harris,
Daniel Hubberd, Robert Hardcastle, John Willis, and Philip Carson of Caroline County
to appear as aforesaid on behalf of Charles Daffin on the hearing of his said Complaint against
George Martin.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Mrs Ann Levascher Thirty pounds
for Six months half pay due the 1st instant.
