LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL

GENTLEMEN AND LADIES:

I have the pleasure of transmitting to you Volume 71 of the Archives of
Maryland. This volume, edited by Professor Aubrey C. Land, contains the
Journal of the State Council for the years 1784 to 1789 and, as such, is part of
the sub-series of the Journal of Correspondence of the State Council of Mary-
land commenced in earlier volumes of the Archives.

The lapse of time between the publication of this volume and the previous
one has been due to difficulty in replacing Miss Elizabeth Merritt who retired
following the issuance of Volume 70. Work on the next volume has begun.
