330 Journal of the State Council, 1784-1789.

term in the following Sums Viz, Thomas Ring five pounds and Elias
Smith One pound ten shillings for having unlawfully injuriously etc.
with the assistance of Thomas Bailey assaulted and held in durance a
certain Thomas Dugan until the said Dugan paid the said Bailey
thirty five shillings for his enlargement. And another fine of five
pounds on the said Ring and one pound ten shillings on Smith for
having assaulted and beat the aforesaid Dugan. The Petitioners set
forth that they are so poor as to be entirely unable to pay the whole of
the said fines, and the Board being well certified of the poverty of
the Petitioners do in consideration thereof Order that of the said
Thomas Ring's fines amounting to ten pounds, the sum of five be
remitted, and that of the fines imposed on Elias Smith amounting
to three pounds the sum of One pound, ten shillings be remitted.

Present as on Saturday.

Ordered that the Western Shore Treasurer pay to Benjamin
Nicholson Esquire sixty two pounds, ten shillings for one quarter's
Salary as Judge of the Court of Admiralty due him the 1st. instant.

That the said Treasurer pay to Thomas Johnson twenty nine
pounds, seventeen shillings and seven pence Specie agreeably to the
"Act to adjust the Debts due from this State" per Account passed by
the Deputy Auditor due the 1st. September 1787.

The Council adjourned till tomorrow morning.
