Provincial Court Proceedings, 1671/2. 23 James Lewis being called appeares, and was by the Court Comitted Liber J J into the Custody of the Sheriff of St Maryes County, but upon his Knees humbly begging pardon of his Excellency & the Court, and in pticular of the hono :ble Wm Calvert Esq for the lavishnes of his Toung, the Court was gratiously pleased to remit his offence, whereupon the said Lewis was acquitted by proclamation, and the Court discharged him paying his ifees. The Sheriff of Charles County Delivered up to the Court here The sheriff Richard Robinson Philip Lynes George Taylour Ellen Taylour Robert Clerke and Mary Clerke his prisoners to him Comitted for livers up y felony, who were all by the Court Comitted to the Sheriff of St Prisoners for Robbing Maryes County. Mr. Allen The Cryer makes proclamacon You good men that are impannelled to inquire for the Right hono the Lord Proprietary and the body of this Province answere to your names The names of the Grand Jurors are as followeth. Mr Thomas Mathewes foreman Bryan Dayley John Blomfeild Thomas Spinke William Watts Caleb Baker Marmaduke Symms William Thomas Thomas Bennet George Charlesworth John Nuthall John Balley Thomas Griffin George Beckwith John Goldsmith Edward Dubury. Then was Peter Roberts of St Maryes County one of the Grand Peter Rob Jurours Fined for not appearing upon call five hundred pounds of Tobacco. The said Grand Jurours in number sixteene being all called ap peared and were sworne according to the usuall oath after which the Attorney Generall Delivered unto them these Indictmts follow ing (vizt) The Jurours for the Right honoble the Lord Proprietary upon their oathes doe prsent Justinian Gerard of the County of St Maryes Justinian for that the said Justinian Gerard Two hoggs of the goods and Gerard Chattells of John Gouldsmith of the County of St Maryes at Bram ley in the aforesayd County did take Kill and carry away the fifth day of October in the fortieth yeare of his Lopps Dominion &c Annoque Domini 1671, Contrary to the forme and Effect of a cer teine Act of Assembly in that case had made and provided and again5t the peace of his aaid Lopps Rule and Dignity. |
