that Parish together with your unshaken Zeal for the Security and
promotion of the Established Religion, was pleased to Signify to
the Vestery of that Parish, that they should not have any Rector
imposed on them without a Tryal by and Aprobation of the
Parisheners of the Parish
Therefore we the Vestrymen, Wardens, and Parishenors of the
Parish of Coventry af.d whose Names are hereto Subscribed, being
filled with the deepest sense of gratitude for your kind and affec-
tionate answer in return to our Application and do beg leave to
offer this as our testamonial of our Sincerity to your person and a
hearty desire and prayer of your long continuance in the Administra-
tion over us, And we beg leave with all due defference to represent to
your Excellency that being incouraged by your condecending good-
ness and respect expressed towards us in your answer, the most
Considerable part of the parisheners imedeately and unanimously
determined to give a Call and Invitation to a Gentleman of the Clergy
that should be able to give the most positive testimonials of his
unshaken Zeal to the Church, indow'd with Abilities and from a
Serioies [sic] of practice have demonstrated to the World to have
lead a pious and Godly life, that from Such a man might have reason
to hope that the most of the people would be rectified which from the
long Neglect of the late Incumbent are much Corupted, and
might take root and obtain a new gro'th amongst us, by which means
we shall receive that advantage and satisfaction which we hold and
do esteem as our greatest Blessing, to wit to be to the
duty and practice of a holy and religious life, and that in obtaining
such a Man it would be esteemed agreeable
prevent every obstacle that could be suposed to arrive against our
[attaining] so desirable an end, Thus being moved through the
principles herein recited accordingly appointed some of our Vestry
for the purpose af.d and in consequence of their appointment, they
made their aplication to the Rever.d Doc.r Thomas Bradbury Chand-
ler and gave him an Invitation to our parish, who hath been pleased
in consideration of the perishing state of our Church to condescend
to come and visit us and to give the parishoners a Tryal of him, and
accordingly has visited us and preached several Sermons in our
Parish and performed some other porochial duties, and Satisfyed us
from undoubted Authority of his Abilities moral life, and conver-
sation, some of which testamonials will be presented to your Ex-
cellency by this Gentleman and hope will prove satisfactory to you
also, We now from him under these consideracions enjoy every
hope of receiving from him all the Advantages we could desire or
wish in a Teacher or Rector, and do declare our entire Satisfaction
in him and to receive him as our Teacher, In consideration of which
we humbly present the said Rev Doctor Thomas Bradbury Chandler
to your Excellency and do earnestly pray your Excellency that you
