416 Charles County Court Proceedings, 1671—1674.
Liber E And whereupon the said Roger Complayneth against the said
John for that whereas Some tyme in the yeare Sixty nyne the said
Jno did craftely inveigle and advise a Servt of his the said Roger
named Dorothy Welch to runn away and absent her Self e from her
Said Mr Service and her when run away did in his did in his house
sevall tymes harbour and entertayne contrary to his Lordshipps peace
and the Law of this Province and to the great damage and Injury
of him the said Roger whereupon he sayes he is damnefyed the
Sume of 2990 lb of tobacco and thereupon he brings his Suite
David Towell Sworne in open Court on the behalf e of the Plant:
who is aged twenty Seven yeares or thereabout, declares tht Some
tyme three yeares Since he was at John Waters his house at work
and he saw Roger Dickeson bring the maide from the tobacco house
to the dwelling house & farther Sayes not
Henry Aspenoll Sworne & declares the Same;
John Munn Sworne on the behalf e of the plt allso who declares
tht John Waters toubd him he entertayned the mayd allmost two
nights and farther Sayeth not
whereupon the Worshippfull Comishoners ordred tht a Jury Should
be impannelled, and goe out upon the Same
and they brought in this Virdict vizt That the Deft pay cost of
Suite and one hundred pounds of tobacco damage cost is here-
under written:
To Attorneys fees 060
To attendance 090
To Evidence charge to Jno Munn 3 dayes 090
To Hen: Aspinoll 3 dayes Evidence charg 090
To David Towell 3 dayes charge 090

Kelham Magbouglin entreth this ensueing marke of hogs & cattell
(vizt) a figure of 3 undr each eare
Reodrike Lloyd prferrs this ensueing Peticon to the Court for his
freedome
yr humble Peticoner peticoneth yr Worshipps whereas he has
Served the terme of four compleate yeares according to the Tenure
or condicon expressed in his Indenture made betweene him the said
Lloyd of the one partye and John Davies of the Island of Creeke of
the Easterne Shore of the other and being assigned unto Mr John
Allen Mercht and from the Said Allen unto Allexander Smith the
said Smith the tearme of foure yeares being now expyred according
to the condicon expressed in the Indentre under prtence of being Sold
to him the aforesaid Allen for the Custome of the Countrey refuseth
to lett yT peticoner have his freedome according to the Condicons
[fol. 81] expressed in the aforesd Indentre therefore yr Peticoner peticoneth
