A Message by Mess:rs Gant and Mackall
By the Lower House of Assembly the 24.th April 1762
May it please your Honours,
This House has appointed M.r Dulany. Doct.r Steuart and M.r
Worthington to join one Member of your House to Contract for
repairing the Publick Buildings and for takeing a sum of Money
not exceeding two hundred Pounds out of the Treasurers Hands
for paying for the Said Repairs

The following is sent by John Ridout Esquire
By the Upper House of Assembly the 24.th Day of April 1762
Gentlemen
This House hath appointed John Ridout Esquire to join the
Members Named by you for the Purposes in your Message of this
Day by Mess.rs Gant and Mackall
Ordered that the Clerk of this House receive the same fees on all
Private Bills this sesion as are allowed by the Lower House to their
Clerk
Adjourned till 3 of the Clock in the Afternoon

The following Message is sent to the Lower House of Assembly
by Richard Lee Esq:r
By the Upper House of Assembly 24. April 1762
Gentlemen
Your Message of the 16.th Instant is of so Extraordinary a Nature
both in Language and Sentiment, and so unbecoming the Repre-
sentative of the People of Maryland which without the Least foun-
dation set up for an Unrivalled Zeal for his Majestys Service and
Arrogates to itself the rights & Powers of a British House of Com-
mons, that but for the Salutary Motive of Obviating those groundless
pretentious we most certainly should not have paid the Least regard
to it,
The Reality of the Concern you are pleased to Express that our
Message of the 13.th Instant should deprive you of all hopes of
Coming to any agreement with us about the manner of raising
Supplies for His Majestys Service, you will permit us to doubt
because there is not the Least Evidence from your Conduct of a
Real Concern to raise Supplies for his Majestys Service unless at
any Expence which his Majesty will Consider as beyond all pro-
portion above their worth; this will appear past doubt from a very
