672 Somerset County Court Proceedings, 1665 1668. Liber B No. i Elyzabeth Johnson be both publickly whipped or otherwise the man to pay one thousand pounds of tobacco & the woman flue hundred pounds of tobacco for a fine: As alsoe the said Peter Calloway to put in securitie for the Chilids Maintenance that the Countie may Come to noe Charge; And both to giue in securitie for their good be haviour; And the said Peter Calloway to pay unto Elyzabeth John son one hundred pounds of tobacco for her abuse/ At A Courte held the 28th May 1667 for the Countie of Somerset in the Province of Maryland Comrs prseflt vizt Mr William Stevens Capt William Thorne mr James Jones mT John Winder mr George Johnson Whereas John Anderson prferred a peticon agst Charles Ballard for 1200 foote of planke wch was deliuered to Jno Elzey deseased as alsoe another petieon for seaven hundred pounds of tobacco the said John Elzey had recd for John Andersons use Patrick Fleming attourney for Jno Anderson pi: appeared as also Charles Ballard deft who said that John Anderson had recd satissfaccon whereupon the Courte doth order that Capt William Thorne & mr Jno Winder shoulld examine the Accompts betweene the aforesaid Jno Elzey & John Anderson & giue report to the Next Courte To All People to whome these prsents shall Come I William Stevens of the Countie of Sommersett in the Province of Maryland gent & Elyzabeth his wife send greeting in Or Lord God everlasting Knowe yee that whereas Caecilius absolute Lord Proprietor of this Province of Maryland & Avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &c by his Pattent under the greate seale of this Province bearing date the [p. 70] six day of Aprill Annoq 1667 did grant unto me The said William Stevens by the Name of William Stevens of this Province gent: a parce!l of Land Called Suffolke Lying & being on the eastearne shore in a river there Called Pocomoke on the North side of the sd river beginning at a markt oake standing by a Creeke running be tweene Aquintica & Naswaducks & running from thence upon the said Creeke Northerly to another markt oake standing by the said Creeke for length flue hundred thirty foure perches & from thence by a Line drawne South South west to a markt oake for bredth three hundred perches & from thence by a Line drawne South South east to a markt oake for Length three hundred thirty foure perches & from thence by a Line drawne North North east to the first bounder upon the Creeke three hundred perches Containing & laid out for one thousand acres more or lesse together with all rights Profitts & benefltts thereunto belonging (Royall Mines excepted) To haue & to hold the same to me the sd William Stevens Mine heires & assignes |
