Somerset County Court Proceedings, 1665 1668. 659 23th March 1666/67 LiberB No.i Richard & Elyzabeth Munt withdraweth their accon of debt agst Henry Lewis 26th March 1667 Randall Revell withdraweth his accon of the Case agst Jinkin Price At A Courte held 26th day of March 1667 for the Countie of [r. 53] Sommersett in the Province of Maryland Present Mr William Stevens Capt: William Thorne mr Henry Boston mr John Windermr George Johnson That whereas John Copper prferred a peticon agst John Griffith wherein he Complained tht his servant Susanna Brayfeld hath a baster child & tht she saith it is John Griffith desiring an order tht John Griffith may take away the child & make payemt for Losse of time & all other Charge; after severall deposicons taken being sub- pined both by plant: & defendt The Cause was debated by the Courte & found tht the chillds Father was John Griffith whereupon the Courte duth urder tht John Griffith shall pay unto John Cooper for satiss faccon one thousand three hundred pounds of tobacco the said John Copper to pay all Courte charges since the last Courte and dis chardge John Griffith from all other charges whatsoever Concerning the prmises except his owne charges before the last Courte & whereas John Cooper & Susanna Brayfeld refuseth to deliuer the chilid to be kept & disposed of by him the sd Jn° Griffith Itt is Further ordered that John Cooper doth forthwith giue in securitie to the Countie for the Maintenance & bringing up of the said child borne of the afore said Susanna Brayfeld as allsoe it is Likewise ordered tht Susanna Brayefeld doe pay flue hundred pounds of tobacco for a fine for her Fact Committed or else to pay or Cause to be paid Labour towards the makeing of his Lordships high wayes to the vallue thereof & to giue in securitie for the performance forthwith In de fault hereof the said Susanna Brayfeld to be publickly Whipped At A Courte helld the 26th March 1667 for the Countie of Sommerset In the province of Maryland Comrs present, vizt; Mr William Stevens Capt William Thorne mr Henry Boston mr John Winder mr George Johnson That whereas John Rhodes preferred a peticon agst Mary Barnebe alleadging there was tobacco to him upon Accompt both plantiffe & defendt appeared & desired a respite to the Next Courte wch was granted by the Court |
